GUESS WHO'S BACK?

Happy New Year!

Thank you all for your support in 2010. It was a year of growth for me. Voluntarily leaving a major recording label and being involved with a few dirt bags really took a toll on me. I made every effort to work on my album and hold my life together, but things just got too heavy. I stopped recording and moved to Atlanta to escape everything for a little while. After returning home and spending a lot of time to myself, reflecting, the clouds slowly started to break. You were patient with me during my absences and I appreciate that!

I grew not only as a person, but also as a songwriter, vocalist and artist. The album I'm releasing is truly straight from my heart! I have fabricated nothing. I'm simply telling my unadulterated story over major and minor chords. There is enough disposable music floating through the airwaves, so I don't feel it necessary to contribute in that way. My intent is to make music that will last and most importantly, make you feel again. Contrary to what seems to be the general consensus amongst 18-30 year olds, it's okay to feel!

Now that I'm recording again, all is seemingly well. I'm so comfortable with myself and excited about where my career is headed. It's still a process though. Drudging up the difficult memories I sing about on this album to get good, honest vocal takes has proven to be a little mentally exhausting. But I'm keeping the bigger picture in mind, so it's totally worth the trouble. My goal is that this album helps someone to avoid a potentially heartbreaking situation or comfort someone who's currently 'going through'. And based on the feedback I've received from you all so far, that goal is already being met. I love it.

I really appreciate you all for your support. I'm here now, working and not stopping. Great things are in store. As I continue to grow and reach my goals this year, I pray you do the same!

I loved Kanye West's "Power" when I heard it. Loved the remix even more. So, I wanted to get on! Sat down at my piano, re-played everything, and flipped it a little so that the lyrics applied to me and my situation (and maybe yours, too).

ON THE AIR: In Studio Interview with F.O.K.U.S. Radio

Last night was great. Took a trip up to the University of Michigan to do an in studio interview with DJ Teddy Ruk-Spin on F.O.K.U.S. Radio! Teddy and Bryan had great questions for me and the vibe was very chill. Definitely enjoyed myself. :)

I premiered my latest single, "Power (No One Man)", and boy oh boy was I hype! (lol) They ran the record back and it was fun times all around. I'll update this post with footage from the interview tomorrow. Until then, check out some pics from inside the studio!

Great news loves! "Almost Wrote You A Love Song" will be included on G.O.O.D. Music/Island Def Jam artist Big Sean's mixtape, Finally Famous VOL.3. It's really great to collaborate with Sean. wait... excuse me while i catch my breath.... *breathes* ok. i'm back. :)

this weekend, me, Big Sean, Donnis, Dante Marshall & Lawrence Jenkins shot the video for "Almost Wrote You a Love Song". it was SO much fun! i've done some t.v. work before (Lincoln Heights, Baldwin Hills) but this was my first time shooting a music video. the days were long and hot, but well worth it. :)

The directors, Dante and Lawrence started a production company, On The Rocks, and chose the song as their inaugural project. These guys are super talented, so i trust them and can't wait to see the finished product!

the video is coming out very soon and i'll post behind the scenes footage as well when it drops.

Hey loves!

so, I spent the first half of summer in Atlanta teaching/counseling 11th & 12th graders.. had zero time to work on the album. but no worries! back in Detroit, in a great mental space, loving the creative process and working hard on releasing my baby (Almost Wrote You A Love Song) to you in a timely manner!

this song, "All I Know Is Him" came out of nowhere. I was sure that I was over the whole "him" situation, but hey... what do I know? we sometimes second guess ourselves. wonder about what could have been. try to return to what's familiar. this is a song for those moments... for those thoughts. every song helps. every song heals. I pray it does the same for you. if you love it, talk about it! xxoo

The very very talented ROCK NATION asked me to help them celebrate their album release on January 1, 2010! The show was SO much fun!! 3D did an awesome job and RN blew me away!! Hugs and kisses to all the people who showed love during and after my set. You guys mean the world to me! The energy in the room was amazing and the crowd made me feel really comfortable performing the new music!I kinda forgot to hit record on my computer before I went on sooooo I'll post the footage later :-P.
